After spending a week at the Octopus resort in Nadi Fiji, we didn’t have particularly high expectations for the Mercure. After all, we had just come from paradise! But the Mercure turned out to be the perfect place for the night inNadi Fiji.
The folks at the check in desk were very professional, our room was spotless, and the hotel itself had a very nice atmosphere. After a failed attempt to find a place to eat in Nadi Fiji, we even ended up eating at the Mercure. The food was expensive, but quite good.
We stayed there for two nights during our honeymoon and it was an absolute disappointment. We couldn’t wait to leave. We had to change rooms twice in Nadi Fiji. The first time was because the room safe wasn’t properly set and we couldn’t get the balcony door to open. We were upgraded to another room but that was worse. The knob for the fan switch was broken, so we had problems turning it on and off. The telephone in the bathroom had wires sticking out all over the place (not to save if you’re taking a bath!). A piece from one of the facets in the bathroom fell off when we turned on the water. A hanger in the closet was broken. There weren’t batteries in the TV remote control so we couldn’t watch TV. Our neighbors had a party in their room from 2:30am-4:00am. We called the front desk to complain about the noise 3 times, but nothing happened. I had to go directly to the front desk at 3:45am to complain. The next day we were upgraded to ANOTHER room (suite). That was a lot nicer, but one of the tiles in the shower peeled off and I ended up cutting my foot. Don’t be deceived by the nice pictures and the name of the hotel in Nadi Fiji. I’m sure there are better hotes in Nadi Fiji.
As luck would have it, we stayed at the Mercure on the one night each week when they have a Meke show with traditional Fijian song and dance. We had just attended a Meke at the Octopus, but I’m glad we got to see the two. This was a considerably more polished, more professional show. Ultimately, I think we preferred the show at the Octopus, which seemed somehow more authentic - but that doesn’t mean that we didn’t enjoy the Mercure show as well!
